Edible rocks are a great decoration for cakes, cupcakes and other desserts. You can make them easily with just three ingredients.
To make edible rocks is not difficult at all, you need just three ingredients and some time. This is definitely suitable for beginners! I have used the edible rocks as filling for the Chocolate Planet Earth.
Gather Your Ingredients
Before you begin, make sure to gather all the necessary ingredients and kitchen tools to create about two handfuls of edible rocks. You will need:
- 50 g/1.8 oz. of white chocolate
- 20 g/0.7 oz. of cookies – butter cookies or these homemade Cacao-Coconut Cookies
- food colorant in gel in any color you like (I used purple and pink here)
How to make Edible Rocks
Crush the cookies with a drinking glass or grind them in a coffee grinder.
Melt white chocolate in water bath and add food colorant.
Add crushed cookies and incorporate well. You might need more or less cookies because the food colorant thickens the chocolate and depending on how much you add you might need to adjust the amount of cookies. The resulting mass should be solid but moldable. Let it rest and dry for several hours.
Once the mixture is dry, chip off small pieces with your fingers. You can also mold these pieces some more. Let them rest and dry some more.
You can also give them a fast chop to add some texture.
And you’re done, now you can use the edible rocks for other sweet projects.
